SPIDERS. GOLF. GIRL IN THE WOOD.

Workshop - 2024

Friday’s at Church Stretton Golf Club are for: pints, pills and putting, but on a warm June evening, single farmer Tommo has another agenda.

Full of fear he tells to his mates Ashley and Sam about his sinister second life online, and that one of the women he’s been speaking to has been found dead. After initial confused questioning quietens, it becomes clear that it does in fact look ‘bad... really bad’, and Sam must tell his partner Hannah, and Ashley his Claire.

Over the weekend, we are privy to an exposing glimpse of the group's relationships: Hannah and Sam aren’t the golden couple they first seem, Ashley and Claire are stuck in the mundanity of rural life, and Tommo is deeply lonely.

The five friends drink, dance, and lie their way to survival, but when reality looms, there’s only one question
remaining... Did Tommo kill that girl?

Spiders. Golf. Girl in the Wood. explores modern rural culture, and the impact of loneliness on mental health, personal responsibility online, gender politics and extremist
misogyny. It was written by Lily Bedigan under the mentorship of David Eldridge, and is her debut play.
